Provost’s Biography
Dr. Bashir Sabo Abubakar is a distinguished educator, researcher, and academician, who has made remarkable contributions to the field of technical education and skill acquisition in Nigeria. Born on August 9th, 1965, in Lafiya, Nasarawa State, he traces his origin to Kanam, Plateau State. Dr. Sabo’s impressive educational journey has paved the way for a successful career marked by his dedication to empowering youth through quality education and developing lifelong entrepreneurial skills
Schooled across the country, Dr. Bashir Sabo Abubakar began his educational pursuit at Lafia East Primary School, where he laid the foundation for his academic excellence. He continued his education at Government College Keffi, solidifying his commitment to personal growth and education.
Driven by his passion for technical education, Dr. Sabo obtained a Nigerian Certificate in Education Technical (NCE) in the pioneer Technical Teacher Training institution (FCE Technical Akoka) with a specialization in Building Construction. He then pursued a B.Sc. in Industrial Technical Education with a focus on Building Technology, attaining a remarkable 2:1 from University of Nigeria Nsukka. This academic achievement further encouraged his aspirations, leading him to pursue a Master of Education (M.Ed) in Curriculum Studies at Bayero University, Kano, where he honed his skills in curriculum development.
With an unwavering commitment to advancing his knowledge, Dr. Sabo pursued a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. This doctoral qualification marked a significant milestone in his career and cemented his position as an expert in technical education.

He progressed through the ranks, starting as an Assistant Lecturer and gradually moving up to Lecturer III, Lecturer II, Lecturer I, Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, and ultimately achieving the esteemed position of a Chief Lecturer, where he served for seven years.

In addition to his teaching roles, Dr. Sabo held several administrative positions, including Head of Department Building, Sub Dean of Technical Education, Dean of Technical Education, Director of Degree Programmes, and Director of Linkages, Entrepreneurship, and Skill Acquisition and was a member of the 6th Governing Council of the College. His leadership acumen and vision contributed significantly to the growth and development of his institution.
Dr. Bashir Sabo Abubakar is an accomplished researcher with a portfolio of sixty-six publications, encompassing both local and international works, Three text books, and 25 conferences. His research has delved into critical areas such as Developing Technical Trade Curricula, Enhancing Teacher Competence, and Equipping Youth with Lifelong Entrepreneurial Skills. These contributions have not only enriched the field of technical education but also impacted policies and practices.
His expertise in the realm of technical education led to his involvement with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Dr. Sabo played a key role as a member of the NCCE Accreditation Team for institutions such as CoE Azare, CoE Maru, and FCE(Technical) Gusau. Additionally, he actively participated in the review of the 2012 NCCE Minimum Standards, contributing
Dr. Sabo’s commitment to the betterment of education extended beyond his home institution. He served as an External Assessor/Examiner for various colleges, including CoE Azare, CoE Dutsinma, FCE(T) Gombe, and FCE Katsina.
