The Provost

Professor Bashir Muhammad Fagge MNSAP, RAS, a distinguished scholar and an astute administrator with unquestionable intellectual faculty and intimidating academic credentials was born 47 years ago at Fagge, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State. Professor Bashir is a happy, determined and vigorous man with the prospect of many fruitful years ahead of him. An active, courageous leader and educationist, Professor Bashir’s intellectual gifts have never, like the late Aminu Kano, obscured his interest in people. Like the late Politician Bashir is a teacher whose teaching gets across because it stems not only from capacious knowledge and unrelenting study, but also from an acute understanding of, and sympathy with human condition.

Many achievers have triumphed and met their destiny after long years of “slaving in the Galleys” unrewarded and unrecognized.


Professor Bashir has at a very tender age achieved many academic feasts, between 1997 and 2003. He bagged his Doctorate degree in Animal Science from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, before then the Professor was at the famous Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in 1994. Upon his successful completion of the one year mandatory National Youth Service Corp Program the young Bashir returned to (ATBU), Bauchi for Master of Science Degree in the field of Animal Science. Before a brief stint at the Kano State College of Art Science and Remedial Studies between 1986 and 1988, he attended Government Secondary School Kawaji from 1980 to 1986. He did his Primary Education at Gama Sabuwa Primary School between 1976 and 1981. Presently he holds numerous Professional qualifications to his credit.


From a Graduate Assistant with the Department of Animal Production ATBU Bauchi he rose rapidly through the ranks (in eight years to become a lecturer I IN 2003.

In furtherance to a fulfilling career in the academia, Professor Fagge left ATBU Bauchi to join the services of Bayero University Kano as Senior Lecturer in 2005. In his usual characteristics and through a stint of hard work, commitment, dedication to duty and illustrious academic productivity, he rose rapidly again (within the space of seven years) from the rank Senior Lecturer in 2005 to the distinguished rank of Professor of Animal Science (Animal Product Processing) in 2012.


Apart from his busy academic schedules, Professor Bashir Fagge is also actively involved in community services across the country. Some of his recent community service endeavours include: Member, Ad-hoc NUC 2014 accreditation panel, University of Ibadan and Federal University of Technology, Akure; Member, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, Council Committee on Animal Products Processing and Handling Discipline 2008 to date; Member, Governing Council, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, Kano State, 2008-2011; Secretary, Local Organizing Committee, Nigerian Society for Animal Production Conference, Kano 2006; Chairman, Appointment and Promotion Committee, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, Kano State 2008-2011; Member, Editorial Committee, Savannah Journal of Agriculture, 2005 to date; Visiting Professor of Animal Science, Department of Animal Science, Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, 2014 to date; Visiting Professor, Department of Agricultural Education, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano 2014 to date; Visiting Professor of Animal Science, Department of Agricultural Education, College of Education Azare, Bauchi State, 2014-date.


Prior to his recent appointment as the 4th substantive Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Bichi, Professor Bashir Fagge had held numerous administrative and management positions within and outside university system. He was appointed Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Kashere (FUK) Gombe state in 2014. Before then, He was the acting Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Bayero University, Kano between July and December, 2009 and Deputy Dean in the same Faculty from 2005 to 2009. Professor Fagge had also served as the Head, Department of Animal Science, Bayero University, Kano from 2009 to 2013, among other key appointments.


Professor Bashir Muhammad Fagge is a happy family man, a caring husband and loving father. He is happily married to Jamila, Rabiah and Salamatu and blessed with15 children. When Prof. is not engaged in Research and Academic work or other Community development activities, he spends his leisure time playing chess, scrabble or watching tennis.
